How It Works
The Pigpen cipher (also known as the Masonic cipher) replaces letters with geometric symbols derived from two tic-tac-toe grids and two X-shaped grids. Each letter is represented by the lines surrounding its position, with dots added to distinguish the second set.
常见问题
Why is it called the Pigpen cipher?
The tic-tac-toe grid shapes resemble pig pens (enclosures), with each letter 'penned' inside. It's also called the Masonic cipher because 18th-century Freemasons widely used it for encrypted communication.
Is the Pigpen cipher secure?
No. It's a simple monoalphabetic substitution cipher. Once you know the symbol mapping, it's trivial to decode. It's used for fun and education only.
Can the Pigpen cipher encrypt Chinese?
No. The Pigpen cipher only has symbols for the 26 English letters. It doesn't support Chinese or other non-Latin alphabets.
